Title: Uncanny adaptations: revisionary narratives in Bryan Fuller’s HannibalAuthor: Raines, MelissaArticle type: ArticleLanguage: English
Description: Examines the uncanny in the television adaptation of Thomas Harris’s Hannibal Lector novels ‘Hannibal’ (2013-15), and the film adaptations. Audience familiarity with the character allows showrunner Bryan Singer to play with representations of Lector as psychopath in a prequel setting. The article argues that this pre-established familiarity allows for the series to challenge the audience, including their conceptions of empathy.
